There are a few key things you should take on every one of your walks with your dog. Start getting into the habit of keeping all these things together so you never forget any of them
1. A double handle leash: I personally love a nicely padded double handle leash because it allow for more or less leash length depending on where I'm walking. If I'm trying to cross the street or pass someone on a path, I can easily hold onto the handle that's closer to my dog to bring them in a big closer without wrapping anything around my hand 2. A Front clip harness: A well-fitted front clip harness does wonders for leash pulling. I personally love the 3-in-1 harness or the Balance harness because there are two different clip options. Clipping the leash to the chest can tell your dog that it's a training walk. Clipping the leash to the back can indicate more of a potty walk. Of course, pulling still shouldn't be rewarded by following your dog but this can be a nice signal to your dog that there are times when they need to be truly focused and engaged and there are times when they get a bit more freedom. I also love to put anIN TRAINING patch on my dog's harness because people will give you more space! 3. A treat bag: Not only for carrying treats but I love a bag that can also carry a small toy, my car keys, and poop bags. A treat bag is essential for keeping treats easily accessible as well 4. High value treats: You are in a lot of competition when walking your dog. It's important that you reinforce your dog for attention on you and for nice walking so that when you come across a distraction, you've already intentionally been teaching them what's worth doing. If you can't get their attention when there's not much happening, it's going to be really hard to get them to stop pulling toward a trigger that pops up on a walk (another dog, person, squirrel, car). Remember, the treat value is up to your dog. Toys can also be reinforcing on a walk but more often than not, the treats will be easier to manipulate and dispense 5. Poop bags: Because we're good people. We pick up after our dogs. Here are some of my personal favorites
