Often, bringing home a dog with a lot of emotional baggage can feel very heavy on a daily basis. You might feel like you’re alone and there’s no one out there who quite gets it.

SHYning Stars is a 6-month program that combines pre-recorded video lessons, a community of peers going through similar issues, and private personalized coaching where I’ll support and coach you while you work with your shy and worried pup.
When the dog you know and live with struggles with the stressors of everyday life, you may feel anxious, disheartened, and outside your own comfort zone. You may be wondering if something you did caused the anxiety or if you are doing the right things for your dog. It can feel like a very dark tunnel when you’re trying to navigate through it on your own.
My goal is to help you and your dog feel more confident and resilient in the outside world so you can worry and stress less on a daily basis.

My name is Laura Gendron. I've been working with dogs and their parents professionally since 2008 and while I'm passionate about many aspects of the behavioral world, there's nothing that light me up more than helping shy dogs come out of their shell so they can learn to experience the world with more joy and curiosity.
Professionally, I'm a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Licensed Family Dog Mediator, and a Fear Free Certified Professional. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and an Associate's Degree in Animal Science from UNH. I spent 10 years working in a Veterinary Hospital and many years working in the rescue and shelter world. Currently, I offer Virtual and In-Person Coaching and Training for you and your family dog, and am based out of Northwood, NH but am able to offer services far beyond NH.
The dog training industry is an unregulated one and one where anyone can call themselves a trainer and charge for their services. It's important to me that I went through accreditation both so that I could feel good about offering my services and so that I could feel that I am staying up to date on the most recent studies and educational opportunities offered. As a positive trainer who uses humane and force free methods, I pride myself on being able to meet dogs and dog parents where they're at and work only within their comfort zone, so as to not add more stress to anyone's life.

I'm also a self-proclaimed "behavior nerd", with a love for teaching, podcast-obsessed, a mom of two human children, a wife, a creative entrepreneur, a community networker, a social introvert, and a lifetime learner. I am constantly seeking and implementing ways to teach you how to better your life with your four-legged companion, in a way that supports your learning style and your dog's needs.

Before jumping into the SHYning Stars program, I want to get to know you and your dog and be sure the program would be a great fit for you. Here are the steps to getting started on your path:

Choose a time and date that works best for you! We will meet on Zoom for approximately 60 minutes and discuss your goals, your dog's history, what behavior struggles you're having, and a plan to get you started right away. This consult will also determine in the SHYning Stars program is right for you or if we should love you in another direction. Either way, you'll leave with a plan of action to start with.
$50 of this consult fee will be applied to the SHYning Stars Program if you sign up within 7 days

3. Meet on Zoom for your Virtual Consult
We will meet on Zoom for our initial consult. Your dog does not need to be present but is certainly welcome to be. This session is recorded for you to watch again later or show your family.

4. Receive a Summary and Initial Plan
After our consultation, you will receive a summarized assessment and initial recommendations. I will then recommend a coaching and training plan that will fit your goals and lifestyle best. You will also be able to download the Zoom recording if you choose to.

In Person Practice Session
During an in-person practice session, I will come to your house or we will meet out and about in a pre-determined location that is deemed best for you and your dog’s needs.

Single Virtual Coaching Session
If you feel you need a virtual coaching session above and beyond your program’s frequency and allotted sessions, you’ll be able to schedule sessions individually.

Day Training Session
This is a session where I come to your dog to work with them 1-on-1, either at your home or out and about. Must be an established in-person client and pre-approved for this type of session.

Audio/Video Creation
If you need a video/audio file made, specific to your dog's needs, I may be able to put it together for you. I have made sound effect playlists, templates for tracking, etc.

How does the program generally work?
Once you sign up for the SHYning Stars program, you’ll be invited into the Membervault platform and will have access to the foundational lessons. If you signed up as a Border Collie or PitBull, you’ll then want to schedule your private coaching session(s).
During these sessions, we’ll talk about lessons you’ve learned or worked on and will personalize your path and program. Over time, you will be given specific lessons and skills to focus on and practice. Any videos that need to be sent over can be done so on Telegram, the private messaging app you’ll be invited to.

Nope, not usually. It's never a good idea to set your dog up to have the problem behavior in order for me to see it and therefore help you. I've been working with behavior cases for a long time and very likely have already seen the behavior, and I believe you. I will, however, sometimes ask you to get a home camera so that footage of your day to day experiences with your dog can be sent to me, without having to set your dog up to fail.

For the live private coaching sessions, my availability is typically Mo, Tu, Th between 9am and 3pm. All other content and support can be consumed and used on your own schedule. You’ll be able to choose a day and time on my online scheduling program. No changes can be made within 48 hours so you’ll want to be sure to add it to your calendar right away.

What platform is the material on?
The pre-recorded content is hosted in Membervault, which is a well-known course hosting platform. Group support happens in a private Facebook Group. Private coaching takes place on Zoom. Private messaging happens on Telegram.

How do I know if my dog will be a good fit?
During the initial consultation, I’ll ask you questions and get history on your dog. Between those questions as well as learning about your goals and learning style, I’ll be able to tell you if I think you and your dog would be a good fit for the program.

Guarantees: While I cannot guarantee how your dog’s behavior will change because I can’t force you to do the work needed to get there and your dog has free choice of behavior, I can guarantee that I will do everything I can to support you on your journey and be part of your team.
